Welcome to the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD Educational Foundation

In 1997, community leaders created the Educational Foundation to enrich the opportunities with the district schools.

Today, the Educational Foundation offers annual grants and scholarships to teachers and students that:

  • Promote academic excellence
  • Stimulate creative thinking
  • Encourage innovation
  • Broaden life experiences
  • Enrich classroom teaching

Since its inception, the non-profit Educational Foundation has awarded over $1.6 million in the form of:

  • Student Scholarships - awarded to graduating seniors to help them pursue their college education.
  • Teacher Grants - to enable teachers to implement new and innovative programs and projects in their classrooms, engage the students in the learning process and increase student achievement.
  • Student Enrichment Grants - to allow students to experience educational educational opportunities beyond the traditional classroom.
  • District Program and Campus Grants - to fund comprehensive programs that enable children to meet challenging district content and student performance standards with an emphasis on basic academics and parent involvement.

The Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District serves the cities of Carrollton, Farmers Branch, Addison, Coppell, Dallas, Valley Ranch and Irving.

The school district has 43 campusees, with more than 26,000 students, of which 60% are at the low-income level. Students in kindergarten through grade 12 and teachers of the C-FB ISD are eligible for a variety of grants and scholarships through the Educational Foundation.

Dear Friend of the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation,

With so much riding on the future of our great nation, education of students is one of the cornerstones of a successful election process as defined by our founding fathers. In these times of decreasing state and federal funds for public education, the Educational Foundation provides a vital role in supporting C-FB ISD. As I approach the end of my tenure as the Chairman of the Foundation Board, it seems appropriate to share some of our recent successes and future vision of the Foundation.

First, we have managed, with the exceptional work of Steve Edwards, our Executive Director, to reduce our expenses, which helped offset the loss of funding from C-FB ISD. We have also seen an increase in revenues and contributions. Thanks to the campus captains, we just finished a very successful C-FBISD employee giving campaign. The teachers and administrators exceeded last year's contributions by nearly $12,000. I want to express my sincere thanks to all who supported this campaign. These funds allow our teacher grant program (one of my personal favorites) to expand. If the very people you serve believe in your “cause” it makes it much easier to solicit others to join in the efforts.

Next, as a ‘working board,’ our committee structure is taking hold. New Educational Foundation initiatives will both accelerate and expand the Foundation’s ability to raise significant and sustainable revenues. Thanks to the efforts of the reformed Foundation Board, the Foundation continues to focus on its primary goal of fundraising for more scholarships, grants and awards. Through the Investment Committee and the leadership of Sheryl Giles, we have re-directed endowed investments into a more stable investment portfolio. The goal is to preserve capital, increase income reliability and award more grants.

We are also re-establishing a positive relationship with the district PTA. Our new committee chaired by Mary Lovell will address collaboration opportunities that benefit the C-FB ISD communities.

Another program we initiated that showcases our talented art students is our “C-FB Kids Cards” program. The C-FBISD Arts Department is already highly recognized among its peers in the state of Texas and we are helping share that message with the community. This partnership benefits the school campuses and the Educational Foundation, while displaying some great artwork.

Lastly, in difficult economic times, charitable donations are typically the first discretionary expense donors eliminate. We therefore are continually developing new and successful opportunities to raise monies. Our newest initiative involves the local community colleges where we are teaming together for a win-win opportunity for C-FB students.

Thanks to all involved, the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD Education Foundation was able to distribute $133,216.78 in scholarships, grants and awards in the previous school year. It has truly been my pleasure to serve as part of this successful Foundation team.

Owen DeWitt
Chairman of the Board
