Scholarships

Art Contest / Health Fair Scholarship

The Art Contest / Health Fair Scholarship is awarded to the graduating Senior winner(s) of the Healthy Lifestyles Art Contest at the discretion of the Art Contest / Health Fair committee.

Available to students graduating from:           Any C-FB ISD High School.  Students must have submitted art work to the Healthy Lifestyles Art Contest during the City of Farmers Branch Parks and Recreation Department annual Community Health Fair.

AT&T / Senator Jane Nelson Endowment

This scholarship was established in 2000 by AT&T in honor of Texas State Senator Jane Nelson.

Available to students graduating from:        Any C-FB ISD High School

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. A C-FB ISD graduating senior. 
  2. The scholarship will be awarded to a student whose career and college career path is public education. 
  3. A demonstration of community service and school service as well as reflects the District's Character Values (respect, responsibility, service, cooperation, integrity, pride, citizenship). 
  4. A graduating GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 grade-point scale) or above average ACT/SAT scores. 
  5. Financial need should be considered, but should not be an overriding, determining factor.

Best of the West Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2004 by friends of Ranchview High School.  The first scholarship was awarded in 2006 in honor of the 1st graduating class of Ranchview High School.

Available to students graduating from:           Ranchview High School

Scholarship Criteria:

To be eligible for consideration, an applicant for the Best of the West of Scholarship must meet  the following criteria:

  1. The applicant must complete a C-FB ISD Local Schools Scholarship Application.
  2. The applicant must be a graduating C-FB ISD senior and must be graduating from Ranchview High School.
  3. The student must demonstrate academic achievement. The committee will consider overall GPA, class rank and the advanced course work taken.
  4. The student must demonstrate school involvement, student leadership and school service activities and community service.
  5. The student must also demonstrate that he/she has modeled the C-FB ISD character values of respect, pride, integrity, service, responsibility, cooperation and citizenship.

Scrappy Bergeron Scholarship

The Scrappy Bergeron Scholarship was established to provide scholarships for graduating seniors from R. L. Turner High School in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD in memory of Scrappy Bergeron, a staff member at R. L. Turner High School.

Available to students graduating from:   R. L. Turner High School

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Student must be a graduating senior from R. L. Turner High School.
  2. Student must have completed the local scholarship application that is available in the C-FB ISD high school counseling offices.
  3. Student must have a cumulative overall high school GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 grade-point scale) or above average ACT/SAT scores.
  4. A demonstration of community service and school service as well as reflects the district's Character Values (respect, responsibility, service, cooperation, integrity, price, citizenship).
  5. Financial need should be considered, but should not be an overriding, determining factor.

The Biery Family Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the Biery Family in 2007. 

Available to students graduating from:  Any C-FB ISD High School

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. C-FB ISD graduating senior who has completed the local scholarship application that is available in the C-FB ISD high school counseling offices.
  2. To be eligible for consideration an applicant for the Scholarship must be from a single parent household. 
  3. Additionally, financial need, GPA, leadership and community services is to be considered in the selection process.

Carrollton H.S. Class of 1961

This scholarship was established by Dr. Thomas Redding, an alumni of the Carrollton High School graduating class of 1961.  One of the scholarship purposes is to motivate a high school student who has college potential not to drop out of school because the student sees no opportunity to go to college. 

Available to students graduating from:        Any C-FB ISD High School

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Scholarship shall be awarded at the end of a junior's year to be paid upon the student's graduation from high school.
  2. Applicant must be a CFB ISD student. 
  3. Applicant must have above average grades in the sophomore year and the first half of the junior year OR above average SAT scores.
  4. Applicant must submit a written statement why he/she wants to go to college, his/her proposed course of study and why he/she needs financial assistance.
  5. Applicant must submit recommendation letters from at least 3 teachers or counselors who recommend the student for the scholarship.  The recommendation letter should state that the student has put forth the academic effort in high school, has shown a desire to attend college and a belief that financial assistance is needed. 
  6. Under no circumstances shall race, religion or sex be given any consideration.

Cheatham/Ford Student Scholarship

Lakeiah Cheatham, Assistant Principal at Newman Smith High School and Dan Ford, Principal at Vivian Field Middle School are being honored with this scholarship.

Available to students graduating from:  Newman Smith and R.L. Turner High School

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Student must attend Newman Smith or R.L. Turner High School.
  2. C-FB graduating senior who has completed the local scholarship application that is available in the high school counseling offices.
  3. Students must have a cumulative overall high school GPA of 2.5 or higher (on a 4.0 grade-point scale).
  4. A demonstration of academic and/or discipline improvement over the course of high school career and exhibit school service. 
  5. Student must reflect the district's Character Values (respect, responsibility, service, cooperation, integrity, pride, citizenship). 
  6. Financial need should be considered, but should not be an overriding, determining factor.

Vicki Lane Corley Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of Vicki Lane Corley in 2005.

Available to students graduating from:  R.L. Turner High School

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Applicant must complete a local scholarship application as required by the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation.
  2. Applicant must apply during their senior year at R. L. Turner High School by the published deadline and be pursuing a degree in Business
  3. Student must have a cumulative overall high school GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 grade-point scale) or above average ACT/SAT scores.
  4. Applicant must demonstrate active community service and school service as well as reflect the district's Character Values (respect, responsibility, service, cooperation, integrity, pride, citizenship).
  5. Financial need should be considered, but should not be an overriding, determining factor.

Creekview High School Senior Executive Committee Student Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the 2006 Creekview Senior Executive Committee.

Available to students graduating from:        Creekview High School

Scholarship Criteria:

To be eligible for consideration, an applicant for the Creekview High School Senior Executive Committee Scholarship must possess the following characteristics:

  1. The applicant must complete a C-FB ISD Local Schools Scholarship Application.
  2. With the application, the applicant must turn in three (3) letters of recommendation from teachers, employers, and/or community leaders not related to the student.  One of these letters must be from a Senior Executive Committee sponsor.
  3. With the application, the applicant must turn in an essay on the topic why he/she believes he/she is deserving of the Creekview High School Senior Executive Committee Student Endowed Scholarship.
  4. The applicant must be a Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD graduating senior and must be a Creekview graduating senior.
  5. The applicant must have been a member in good standing of the Executive Committee for a minimum of two years including the senior year.  Membership on the Executive Committee does not have to be consecutive years.
  6. The applicant must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0.

The David Carder Memorial Endowed Student Scholarship
The David Carder Memorial Endowed Student Scholarship was established in 2009 to provide scholarships for graduating seniors from R. L. Turner High School in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD in memory of Mr. David Carder, a 1982 graduate of R.L. Turner High School.

Available to students graduating from: R.L. Turner High School

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Applicant must complete a local scholarship application as required by the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation.
  2. Applicant must have at least a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  1. Applicant must demonstrate active community service and school service as well as reflect the district’s Character Values (respect, responsibility, service, cooperation, integrity, pride and citizenship.)
  2. Preference will be given to an applicant that participated on the R. L. Turner Wrestling Team.
  3. Financial need should be considered, but should not be an overriding, determining factor.

Eric Critchfield Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2000 in memory of Eric Critchfield, a Newman Smith High School student and athlete.

Available to students graduating from:  Newman Smith High School

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Must be Graduating Senior from Newman Smith H.S. 
  2. The recipient of this scholarship is the individual who receives the Trojan Award which is selected by the Newman Smith varsity football team & coaching staff.

DeBell/Rahn Nursing and Medical Careers Scholarship

Four (4) scholarships will be awarded to students who are interested in pursuing a career in the medical profession, especially nursing.  Three (3) scholarships will be awarded to individuals pursuing a nursing career and one (1) scholarship for an individual pursuing a medical career.

Available to students graduating from:        Any C-FB ISD High School

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. C-FB ISD graduating senior who has completed the local scholarship application that is available in the C-FB ISD high school counseling offices.
  2. Financial need determined based on the overall family income.  
  3. An overall four-year GPA average of a B (85) or above. 
  4. A demonstration of community service and reflects the District's Character Values (respect, responsibility, service, cooperation, integrity, pride, citizenship). 
  5. A 75-word essay titled "Why I plan to pursue a career in the nursing or medical field”.

The Tad Dodson Memorial Theater Student Scholarship
       
A 1995 graduate of Newman Smith High School, Tad was heavily involved in the school’s Theater Arts Department and was passionate about all aspects of theater. Known as a mainstay in the Dallas theater community, Tad worked in various facets of the theater including sound, design, and directing. On February 28, 2006, Tad suffered a cardiac arrhythmia and died suddenly. His family is grateful for his experience at Newman Smith and all of the wonderful students and staff members there that helped him develop his talents.

Available to students graduating from:        Newman Smith High School

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Applicant must complete a local scholarship application as required by the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation
  2. Applicant must apply during their senior year at Newman Smith High School by the published deadline.
  3. Applicant must have actively participated in Newman Smith Theater Arts and/or Technical Theater classes for at least two years.
  4. Applicant must demonstrate excellence in acting or technical theater in Newman Smith theater productions.

Early College High School Annual Scholarship

This fund was established in 2010 by Rosie Oliveira, Principal of the C-FB ISD Early College High School (ECHS) to provide scholarships to graduating seniors from the C-FB ISD ECHS. 

Available to students graduating from:  C-FB ISD Early College High School

Scholarship Criteria:
To be eligible for consideration, an application for The Early College High School Endowed Student Scholarship must possess the following characteristics:

  1. Applicant must complete a local scholarship application as required by The Early College High School Student Scholarship and the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation.
  2. Applicant must apply during their senior year in the Early College High School program by the published deadline.
  3. A cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  4. Documentation of a minimum of 20 hours of community service.
  5. Turn in a 100 word essay titled "Why I chose to enroll in the Early College High School and how it will benefit me in the future."

Michael Stephen Ebanks Memorial Scholarship

Michael Ebanks was a Newman Smith High School student who tragically lost his life at the A&M Bonfire accident.  This scholarship was established by Teachers and Friends of C-FB ISD in memory of Michael.

Available to students graduating from:  Newman Smith High School

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Student who has successfully competed in DECA at Newman Smith High School. 
  2. Student must be a Newman Smith High School graduating senior who has completed the local scholarship application that is available in the high school counseling office.  
  3. Student must have a cumulative overall high school GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 grade-point scale).

Educational Foundation Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation Board of Directors.

Available to students graduating from:  Any C-FB ISD High School

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. C-FB ISD Graduating Senior. 
  2. Family income below $59,000 or extenuating circumstances.  Records available in the high school counseling offices should indicate the student is not likely to receive money from other academic scholarships. 
  3. Recipient's college major should be elementary or secondary education, with career plans to be a public school teacher. 
  4. Graduating grade point average of 3.0 or higher or above average ACT/SAT scores. 
  5. A demonstration of community service and school service as well as reflects the District's Character Values (respect, responsibility, service, cooperation, integrity, pride, citizenship). 
  6. Preference may be given to students planning to attend colleges or universities in Texas.

The Jim Elliott Scholarship
    
The Jim Elliott Scholarship was established in 2009 to provide scholarships for graduating seniors from Newman Smith High School in memory of Mr. Jim Elliott. Jim Elliott taught in the C-FB ISD for about 35 years. He taught at Dewitt Perry for 2 years, R.L. Turner for 3 years and Newman Smith for 29 years! Jim taught primarily chemistry and physical science or IPC. He was a tireless champion of the student who was consistently working hard even if they were not as academically gifted. He had a large sense of humor and a billion stories to share. He had more knowledge of science than ANYONE in the school district. Jim was the guy you could depend on and the one who never shied away from the values of what is right and logical. He loved kids, science, his family and his friends!

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Graduating senior from Newman Smith High School
  2. Planning to study science, engineering, medicine
  3. GPA of 3.0 or higher
  4. Student Athlete
  5. No conduct referrals from a teacher during senior year.

Milburn R. & Sylvia McInnish Gravley Student Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2002 in honor of Carrollton Mayor Milburn R. Gravley and his wife Sylvia McInnish Gravley.

Available to students graduating from:        Any C-FB ISD High School

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Individual must be a graduating senior of C-FB ISD with plans to attend a two year or four year college/university, vocational/technical school and who has completed the local Scholarship application that is available in the high school counseling offices. 
  2. Graduating grade point average of 80/B (3.0 on a 4.0 grade-point scale) is required. 
  3. Recipient should demonstrate leadership and school involvement through school leadership activities, membership and offices in any extracurricular activities including but not limited to athletics and fine arts. 
  4. Recipient should demonstrate community service as well as reflect the District's Character Values (respect, responsibility, service, cooperation, integrity, pride, citizenship).
  5. Financial need to continue the student's education should be outlined in the student's application.  The need may focus on total family income or an extenuating financial circumstance that could affect post-high school educational plans. 
  6. Student should submit a 75-word essay titled “What did you learn from your community service experiences?”

Mary Grimes Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the Mary Grimes Education Center community for students who attend MGEC.

Available to students graduating from:  Mary Grimes Education Center

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Student must complete Application for Local Scholarships and provide 2 letters of reference. 
  2. Applications will be graded in the following areas:
    • Counselor Rating on college/academic preparedness and College Plans
    • GPA
    • Financial Need
    • Financial Help
    • Extenuating Circumstances/Overcoming Obstacles (based on essay and  application answers)
    • Leadership/Community Involvement

Gustwick Family Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the Gustwick Family for students graduating from Mary Grimes Education Center.

Available to students graduating from:  Mary Grimes Education Center

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Student must complete Application for Local Scholarships and provide 2 letters of reference. 
  2. Applications will be graded in the following areas:
    • Counselor Rating on college/academic preparedness and College Plans

The Suzy Hagar Endowed Fund for Gifted Education

This scholarship was established in honor of Ms. Suzy Hagar to provide Teacher Scholarships to support teachers’ continuing professional education which furthers their understanding about the social, emotional and academic needs of gifted children.

Scholarship Criteria

To be eligible for consideration, an application for the Teacher Scholarship must possess the   following criteria:

  1. Applicant must be a current teacher in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD
  2. Request must be for courses/workshops that indicate an advanced study in gifted education.
  3. The course/workshop should be approved by the Department of Advanced Academic Services.

Applicants must follow the Suzy Hagar Endowed Fund for Gifted Education application instructions available here and submit by the deadline date.

Scholarships have an application deadline of the first Thursday in April at 4:30 p.m. and must be turned in to the Educational Foundation Office.

Robyn Michelle Hassell Memorial Scholarship 

In September 2008 while at work, Robyn developed sudden pain and swelling in her left arm. The doctor at the ER discovered that she had a blood clot in her left shoulder.

After numerous tests and procedures, Robyn’s doctors finally diagnosed her with Stage IV colon cancer. 

She was eventually transferred to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. After having 3 chemotherapy treatments, eight weeks in the ICU and exhausting all other procedures, Robyn was received by our Lord on December 20, 2008.

Robyn was a 2002 graduate of Creekview High School. 

Her amazing attitude, spirit and overall zest for life were evident to all that knew her.

Although she will be terribly missed by all, her legacy, faith, courage, hope, love, and determination will live in us forever.

Available to students graduating from:  C-FB ISD Creekview High School

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Applicant must complete a local scholarship application as required by the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation
  2. Applicant must apply during their senior year of high school by the published deadline.
  3. Applicant must have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  4. Applicant must be a female graduating from Creekview High School
  5. Applicant must plan to pursue a college degree in the medical field and submit a one-page essay explaining why they want to enter the medical field.

This scholarship was established in 1999 by the Employees of Hitachi Semiconductor (America), Inc.

Available to students graduating from:  Any C-FB ISD High School

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Graduating C-FB ISD senior whose intended area of secondary study is in a math, science or technology related field.
  2. Graduating grade point average of 75/C (2.5) is required.
  3. Student should submit a 75-word essay titled “What I hope to accomplish by pursuing a math, science or technology related degree.”

This scholarship was established in 1999 by the Employees of Hitachi Semiconductor (America), Inc.

Available to students graduating from:  Any C-FB ISD High School

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Graduating C-FB ISD senior female whose intended area of secondary study is in a math, science or technology related field.
  2. Graduating grade point average of 75/C (2.5) is required.
  3. Student should submit a 75-word essay titled “What I hope to accomplish by pursuing a math, science or technology related degree.”

Brian Hubbard Memorial Art Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of Mr. Brian Hubbard, an Art Teacher at McCoy Elementary for many years, who died in a tragic accident in 2005.

Available to students graduating from:        Any C-FB ISD High School, but must have attended McCoy Elementary.

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Student must have attended McCoy Elementary for a minimum of 1 year.
  2. Scholarship to be awarded to a student whose intended area of secondary study is in art.
  3. C-FB ISD graduating senior who has completed the local scholarship application that is available in the C-FB ISD high school counseling offices.
  4. Student must have a cumulative overall high school GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 grade-point scale) or above average ACT/SAT scores.
  5. A demonstration of community service and school service as well as reflects the District’s Character Values (respect, responsibility, service, cooperation, integrity, pride, citizenship).

Brice Jackson Scholarship

This scholarship was established in honor of Brice Jackson, a former C-FB ISD educator.

Available to students graduating from:  Mary Grimes Education Center

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Student must complete Application for Local Scholarships and provide 2 letters of reference.

Dr. Bart L. Lewis Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2005 in memory of R.L. Turner High School graduate, Dr. Bart L. Lewis.  Dr. Lewis had a distinguished professional teaching career at various universities including Texas A & M University in College Station.

Available to students graduating from:        R.L. Turner High School

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Graduating senior student from R.L. Turner High School with at least three of successful completion of Spanish.
  2. C-FB ISD graduating senior who has completed the local scholarship application that is available in the C-FB ISD high school counseling offices.
  3. A demonstration of community service and school service as well as a reflection of the district’s Character Values (respect, responsibility, service, cooperation, integrity, pride, citizenship) should be considered but not be a deciding factor.
  4. Graduating grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) is required.
  5. Financial need should be considered but should not be an overriding, determining factor.

Doyle & Kathryn McWhorter Endowed Scholarship

The first recipient of this scholarship should be a graduating senior from the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD.  This same recipient is eligible to receive the scholarship each year for four (4) years if he/she maintains a three point (3.0) grade average (on a 4.0 grade-point scale) while studying to become a teacher. 

The recipient is responsible for providing copies of the semester grade reports to the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation’s Chairperson of the Grants and Scholarship Committee by June 30 following his/her freshman, sophomore and junior years in college.

In case of the recipient failing to maintain the three point (3.0) grade average and/or failing to provide the grade report to the designated office, or changes his/her major from education, the scholarship award will remain with the endowment and a new recipient will be selected in the spring from the next graduating senior class.

The Grants and Scholarship Committee may make recommendations to the Board of Directors of the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation for an exception to the criteria for the college student if there are extenuating circumstances such as extended illness, death in the family, etc…

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. A student who wants to become a teacher, and whose intended area of study is education.
  2. C-FB ISD graduating senior who has completed the local scholarship application that is available in the CFBISD high school counseling offices.
  3. Student must have participated in extra curricular activities.
  4. Student must show a demonstration of community service.
  5. Student has had work experience.
  6. Student must have a cumulative overall high school GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 grade-point scale).
  7. Financial need should be considered

Newman Smith High School Class of 2001

This scholarship was established in 2001 by the Newman Smith High School alumni graduating class of 2001.

Available to students graduating from:        Newman Smith High School

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Recipient should be a graduating senior of Newman Smith High School with plans to attend a four-year college/university, vocational/technical school. 
  2. An overall four-year GPA of 3.5 or higher (on a 4.0 grade-point scale). 
  3. Recipient should demonstrate leadership and school involvement through school leadership activities, membership and offices held at Newman Smith High School in any extracurricular activities including but not limited to athletics and fine arts. 
  4. Recipient should reflect the values of Newman Smith High School and be an example of the school's motto (Honor, Integrity Achievement).   
  5. Financial need or community-based volunteerism should not be used in selecting the recipient. 
  6. Students interested in this scholarship should present an essay of 50 words or less on  a) why the student should be the recipient or  b) the importance of student leadership and/or school spirit. 
  7. Students should also present two letters of recommendations from two Newman Smith faculty or staff members.

Lyn Johnston Memorial Scholarship

In 2005, this scholarship was established by the Creekview PTSA in Lyn Johnston's name to honor her memory for being a loving mother, active volunteer, and life-long educator. She had a passion for the students of Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD which was shown in the amount of time she gave of herself in working with the Kent Elementary School PTA, the Blalack Middle School PTA, the Creekview High School PTSA and the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD Council of PTAs.

Available to students graduating from:        Creekview High School

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Applicant must complete the C-FB ISD Local Scholarship application available in the counseling office as required by the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation.
  2. Applicant must be a graduating C-FB ISD Senior from Creekview High School
  3. Major in the field of Education
  4. Applicant must have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. 
  5. Applicant must demonstrate active community service and school service as well as reflect the district's Character Values (respect, responsibility, service, cooperation, integrity, pride and citizenship.)
  6. Submit a 300 word essay titled "What inspired me to pursue a teaching career".

Marcel Lorant Pena Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established in loving memory of Marcel Lorant Pena, a Newman Smith High School student who loved playing baseball and soccer.  Marcel passed away on February 14, 2008 after a brave fight with cancer.

Available to students graduating from:  Newman Smith High School

Scholarship Criteria:

To be eligible for consideration, an applicant for the Marcel Lorant Pena Scholarship must possess the following characteristics:

  1. Applicant must complete a local scholarship application as required by the Newman Smith High School and the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation.
  2. The Applicant must be a C-FB ISD graduating senior and must be graduating from Newman Smith High School.
  3. Applicant must be a Newman Smith athlete; it is requested that the scholarship committee give first consideration to an athlete who is part of the school’s baseball program.
  4. Applicant must demonstrate that he/she has given time to the community at large and/or community service to the school.

The Ranchview Crimestoppers Scholarship is awarded to Ranchview High School students involved in the Ranchview Crimestoppers program at the discretion of the Ranchview Crimestoppers Club and the Campus Officer.

RHD Volunteer Auxiliary Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2000 by the Volunteers of the RHD Memorial Auxiliary.

Available to students graduating from:  R.L. Turner High School

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Recipient must be a graduating C-FB ISD Senior.
  2. Recipient must be enrolled in the Biomedical Professions Academy and must have completed the requirements of the academy program.
  3. Recipient has determined that his/her career and college career is a health/medical/biomedical profession.

Riverchase Elementary PTA Scholarship

The Riverchase Elementary PTA Scholarship was established in 2010 to award a Student Scholarship in honor of the Riverchase Elementary Staff for their unending support of the students and their commitment to do all they can to ensure each student may continue on their educational journey towards higher education.

Available to students graduating from: Ranchview High School

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Graduating senior from Ranchview High School
  2. Attended Riverchase Elementary School for at least 4 semesters
  3. GPA of 3.0 or higher
  4. Demonstrate to the best of their ability, through the application or referral letters, they remained an Eagle by demonstrating Excellence, Attitude, Good Choices, Leadership, Enthusiasm and Service to Others during their high school years.
  5. Along with the C-FB ISD Local Scholarship application, the applicant must submit three referral letters two of which are from current school faculty.
  6. Turn in a 75 word essay stating how an early education experience helped encourage them in school.

The RLT Millennium Incentive Scholarship is awarded to students graduating from R.L. Turner High school at the discretion of the R.L. Turner High School Principal.

Kathy Shelton and David Roberts Family Memorial Teacher Scholarship

In 2002, this scholarship was established by Leroy Roberts (a retired C-FB ISD teacher), his wife, Erma Roberts and daughter, Kathy Shelton, a C-FB ISD Content Mastery Teacher at Ted Polk Middle School to honor the memory of the David Roberts Family who was killed in a plane crash in 1992.

On December 24, 2002, Kathy Shelton died as a result of complications from surgery. 
At that time, the Roberts asked that the name be changed to honor their daughter Kathy along with their son, David, and his family. 

Available to teachers at ANY C-FB ISD school.

Application deadline: first Thursday in April of each year at 4:30 p.m.

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Applicant must be a current teacher in the C-FB ISD and must have been a teacher in the C-FB ISD for a minimum of 3 (three) years.
  2. Applicant must be working toward a master's degree or a doctorate in special education and/or working toward a special education certification through a university teacher certification program.
  3. Financial Circumstances will be considered but will not be an overriding, determining factor in the recipient selection.

W.R."Randy" Rutherford Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2003 in memory of William Randolph (Randy) Rutherford, Jr., a community journalist and a licensed counselor who assisted those struggling with substance abuse.

Available to students graduating from:  Any C-FB ISD High School, but special consideration given to Newman Smith High school students.

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. C-FB ISD graduating senior student whose intended area of study is journalism or mass communication.
  2. GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 grade-point scale) or higher is required.
  3. A demonstration of community service and school service as well as reflects the District’s Character Values (respect, responsibility, service, cooperation, integrity, pride, citizenship).

The Cole McFarland Shook Memorial Scholarship

The Cole McFarland Shook Memorial Scholarship, established in loving memory by his family and friends, is a tribute to Cole's loving heart and gentle soul. Cole, a senior at Creekview High School, passed away December 26, 2009 leaving behind a legion of people who will always remember his smile, spirit and determination.

  1. Applicant must complete the local scholarship application as required by the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation.

  2. Must be a graduating senior from Creekview High School in the C-FB ISD.

  3. Career and College Career path is Nursing.

  4. Graduating GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 grade-point scale) or above average ACT/SAT scores. 

  5. Financial need should be considered, but should not be an overriding, determining factor.  

  6. A demonstration of community service that reflects the applicants' interest in the
    field of nursing.

  7. Submit a one-page double-spaced essay titled "Why I plan to pursue a career
    in the nursing field and my expected area of interest”.

Katherine Shroff Student Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2003 in memory of Katherine Shroff, a student at Las Colinas Elementary, by the Las Colinas Elementary PTA.

Available to students graduating from:        Any C-FB ISD High School, but must have attended Las Colinas Elementary.

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Student must have attended Las Colinas Elementary school for a minimum of 1 year. 
  2. Student must be graduating from a high school within the CFB ISD and senior who has completed the Local Scholarship Application that is available in the CFB ISD high school counseling offices. 
  3. Student must have a cumulative overall high school GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 grade-point scale). 
  4. Student must have participated in extracurricular and community activities during high school.

This scholarship was established in 2002 by the SHW Group, Inc., an architecture firms focused on education design.

Available to students graduating from:  Any C-FB ISD High School

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. CFBISD graduating senior who has completed the local scholarship application that is available in the C-FB ISD high school counseling offices.
  2. Awarded to a student whose career and college path is either elementary or secondary education and whose career goal is to become a teacher in a public school system.
  3. A demonstration of community service and school service as well as reflects the District’s Character Values (respect, responsibility, service, cooperation, integrity, pride, citizenship).
  4. Four year grade point average of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 grade-point scale) and/or above average ACT / SAT scores.

The Star Polisher Scholarship

The Star Polisher Scholarship is a fund in honor of The Mehnert Men – Rob, Ryan and Kyle for their un-ending support of the High School Equivalency Program and to provide scholarships for individuals who complete their GED in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD and intend to pursue college courses.

Available to students receiving their GED from:  Mary Grimes Education Center

Scholarship Criteria:

To be eligible for consideration, an application for The Star Polisher Scholarship must possess the following characteristics:

  1. Applicant must complete a local scholarship application as required by Mary Grimes and the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation.
  2. Documentation that the applicant is a current HSEP completer through Mary Grimes and plans to attend a two-year or four-year college or university or a vocational / technical school.
  3. Two letters of recommendation.  Letters of recommendation may not be from a family member, but may be from a school instructor, advisor or any other school official; an employer; or a community member who has known the applicant for at least two years.
  4. A one-page letter from the applicant stating why they chose to complete the HSEP and why they wish to attend a college, university or vocational / technical school.

Randy Waldrop Scholarship

The Randy Waldrop Scholarship was established in memory of Mr. Randy Waldrop, a teacher at Blalack Middle School by C-FB teachers, staff and friends.

Available to students graduating from:   Any C-FB ISD High School, but must have graduated from Blalack Middle School.

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Applicant must complete a local scholarship application as required by the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation.
  2. Applicant must apply during their senior year of high school by the published deadline.
  3. Student must have graduated from Blalack Middle School.
  4. Student must have participated in a C-FB Athletics program.
  5. Student must be in the top 1/3 of the graduating class.
  6. A demonstration of community service and school service as well as reflects the district’s Character Values (respect, responsibility, service, cooperation, integrity, pride, citizenship).

Hank Womack Endowed Scholarship

Mr. Hank Womack was a former president of the Trojan All Sports Club and he and his wife were both very active during their sons', Grant and Scott's, tenure at Newman Smith High School.  He was always encouraging to all students and would not hesitate to tell them how important it was to further their education and work hard.

Hank loved to quote people who stated his beliefs in catchy phrases.  These quotes became known as "Hankisms."  Hankism #1:  The joy is in the journey.  This scholarship was established in 2007 in loving memory of Hank by his friends and family.

Available to students graduating from:        Newman Smith High School

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Newman Smith High School Senior.
  2. Recipient may be either female or male.
  1. Maintained a 3.25 GPA (on a 4.0 grade-point scale) during high school (4 years).
  2. Maintained a 95% attendance rate during high school (4 years).
  3. Played at least one varsity sport at Newman Smith High School.
  4. Was actively involved in at least one extra curricular, school sponsored activity.

Shawn and Nafisa Bhagat / Rotary Club of Carrollton Farmers Branch Teacher Grant

This Grant was established by Shawn and Nafisa Bhagat to honor the teachers of C-FB ISD.  Mr. Bhagat is founder of American Fuel Distributors, a member of the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Rotary Club, and received the Citizen of the Year Award from the Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce in 2005.

Available to teachers at ANY C-FB ISD school.

Grant Criteria:

  1. Teacher grant available to any C-FB ISD Campus.

Blalack Middle School PTA Endowment

This Teacher Grant was established by the Blalack Middle School PTA in 2003.

Available to teachers at C-FB ISD Blalack Middle School.

Grant Criteria:

  1. Full time faculty member of Blalack Middle School with minimum of 1 full year of teaching service at Blalack prior to current school year.

  2. Project may not be funded from another source. 

  3. Any material purchased with grant funds becomes the property of C-FB ISD.

  4. Recipient is responsible for providing an evaluation of the project to the Educational Foundation.

Kacie Brekhus Memorial Teacher Grant

The Kacie Brekhus Memorial Teacher Grant was established by Mel and Candi Brekhus in memory of their daughter, Kacie.   Kacie was an  R.L. Turner High School graduate who died in a traffic accident in October, 2003.

Available to teachers at ANY C-FB ISD school. 

Applicants must complete the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation Teacher Grant Application available on the Foundation website (www.cfbisdEducationalFoundation.org), and submit by the application deadline date.

Grant Criteria:

  1. This Teacher Grant is available to any teacher regardless of grade level or subject area. 

  2. The Brekhus family states their preference would be for the chosen teacher to have a connection to Kacie or the Brekhus family in some way.   This preference is not required, but simply requested.

1st Grade Teachers - Bea Clodfetter Teacher Grant

This fund was established in 1998 by Kathryn McWhorter in honor of Bea Clodfetter, a C-FB ISD 1st grade teacher.  The grant is to be awarded to a C-FB ISD Teacher who is currently teaching 1st Grade.

Available to 1st Grade Teachers at ANY Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD school.

Tad Dodson Memorial Teacher Grant

This Teacher Grant was established by friends and family in memory of Mr. Tad Dodson in 2006.  Tad was a graduate of Newman Smith High school and teacher at DeWitt Perry Middle School. 

Available to teachers at C-FB ISD DeWitt Perry Middle School.

Mike Germany Memorial Teacher Grant

This Teacher Grant was established by friends in memory of Mr. Mike Germany, a C-FB Administrator, in 2002.

Available to teachers at C-FB ISD R.L. Turner High School.

Alice Z. Holloway Teacher Grant

The Alice Z. Holloway Teacher Grant is a fund established in memory of Alice Z. Holloway to honor her 30 years of exemplary service in education and provide grants to teachers in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD to implement new and innovative teaching methods and programs in the classroom.

Available to teachers at ANY C-FB ISD school.

Grant Criteria:

To be eligible for consideration, an application for the Alice Z. Holloway must possess the following characteristics:

  1. Applicant must complete a teacher grant application as required by the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation.

  2. Applicant must meet basic requirements for a teacher grant through the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation:
    • Applicant(s) must be a teacher in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD.
    • The proposal can be innovative or needs-based and must improve student achievement.

  3. Preference will be given to applications in the field(s) of English/Language Arts.

Pat James Memorial "Love of Teaching" Recognition Grant

This Teacher Grant was established by friends of Patricia James who taught in the C-FB ISD for fifteen years.  Mrs. James was an exemplary teacher who taught 5th and 6th grade LEAP classes.  She died in 2001 after a long and couragous battle with cancer.

Teachers must be nominated for this Teacher Grant by school principal, district staff, or teacher OR by self-nomination.  Nominated teacher must be currently teaching K-6th grade at a C-FB ISD campus.  Deadline Date to nominate is first Thursday in April of each year at 4:30 p.m.

Applicants must follow the Pat James Memorial “Love of Teaching” Recognition Grant nomination instructions available here and submit by the deadline date.

Grant Criteria:

  1. Five years or less classroom teaching experience.

  2. Currently teaching K-6th grade.

  3. Nominated by school principal, district staff or teacher OR by self nomination.

  4. Has not previously received this grant, must be teaching in CFB district at the K-6 level next school year.

  5. Funds may be used for continuing teacher education, classroom equipment, books, materials or curriculum, field trip.

  6. Nominations should include a brief teaching history with years and grade levels taught and a statement of how this teacher has displayed the teaching qualities that Pat James exemplified.  Self-Nominations should include intended use for the funds.

  7. Nominations should be a maximum of two (2) typed pages double-spaced and may be supported by other nominator statements limited to one paragraph each.

Carl "Catfish" & Kay Montgomery / Carrollton-Farmers Branch Rotary Club Teacher Grant

This grant was established in 2004 in honor of Carl “Catfish” Montgomery and his wife, Kay by friends of the Mongomerys and The Carrollton-Farmers Branch Rotary Club.

Available to teachers at C-FB ISD  R.L. Turner High School.

Plano Office Supply/Al Ruschhaupt Teacher Grant

This Teacher Grant was established by Richard Ruschhaupt, President of Plano Office Supply, in honor of his father Mr. Albert A. Ruschhaupt (“Al”).

Available to teachers at ANY C-FB ISD school.

Grant Criteria:

Commitment to continuation in the teaching profession and further development of professional skills and acquisition of knowledge.

Cindy Randle Family Endowment

This grant was established by Cindy Randle, a C-FB ISD employee.  The first grant will be awarded in 2009.

Available to the AMAT program at C-FB ISD R.L. Turner High School.       

Grant Criteria:

  1. The Grant is to be given to the Academy for Media Arts and Technology (AMAT).

  2. The Grant is to be used at the discretion of the AMAT director to purchase equipment, supplies, or inventory that will benefit the Media Arts/Digital Graphics areas of the AMAT program.  The AMAT director may also use the grant to fund educational trips for media Arts/Digital Graphics students.

  3. If the Media Arts/Digital Graphics areas of the AMAT program cease to exist, then the Cindy Randle Family Endowment Fund will become a scholarship.   If at any time in the future, the Foundation Board of Directors and the Superintendent of the ISD jointly determine that the academic discipline referenced in the Memorandum of Understanding no longer exists, or that a need no longer exists for the program designation for this fund, the donor(s) desires to use distributions from this endowment to support a scholarship designated for a child or grandchild of a district employee, who is a C-FB ISD graduating  senior and meets the following criteria: 
    a) Has maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher 
    b)
    Has demonstrated community and school service and it is indicated on application
    c)
    Is planning to attend a Texas college/university.
    d) First preference should be given to a candidate who plans to pursue a degree in education or journalism.

Theresa Salerno Memorial Library Grant

This Library Grant was established in 2002 in memory of Theresa M. Salerno by Dr. Christopher Salerno. 

Available to teachers at ANY C-FB ISD school.

Grant Criteria:

  1. The campus library media specialist should show documentation of significant formal planning with classroom teacher(s) in order to cooperatively provide rich learning experiences for students in support of district instructional objectives through the effective use of library media resources. 

  2. "Effective use of library media resources" should include print and non-print media (video, audio, Internet) resources in lessons or programs, which model for students the integration of technology into their learning. 

  3. The campus library media specialist should provide evidence of formal planning with classroom teacher(s) in support of the district's instructional objectives and formal evaluation with teaching staff following collaboration.

Nancy Strickland Endowment

This Teacher Grant was established by Nancy Strickland, who taught at various C-FB campuses during her teaching career and was a member of the C-FB ISD Board of Trustees after her retirement. 

Available to teachers at ANY C-FB ISD school.

1. Grant Applicant must be a teacher in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD.

Universal Technology Access Program

The Universal Technology Access Program provides refurbished computers to students in the district who do not have access to a home computer. 

Available to the UTAP program in C-FB ISD Technology / Learning Center.

  1. Provide Internet service for student home computers distributed through the program.

  2. Provide technology literature (brochures, booklets, pamphlets, etc.) for parents, guardians, and/or students that covers various topics such as computer applications, computer literacy and/or internet Safety.

  3. Provide hardware and/or software.

  4. Provide a scholarship to a high school senior who meets the scholarship criteria as outlined by the Universal Technology Access Program scholarship committee.

Valwood Improvement Authority Teacher Grant

This Teacher Grant was established in 2004 in honor of C-FB ISD teachers by the Valwood Improvement Authority located in Carrollton, Texas. 

Available to teachers at ANY C-FB ISD school. 

Applicants must complete the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation Teacher Grant Application available on the Foundation website (www.cfbisdEducationalFoundation.org), and submit by the application deadline date.

Grant Criteria:

  1. Grade level:  open to all

  2. Subject area impacted or specific area of concentration: Math & Science

  3. Students impacted: no demographic requirements; benefits all students
